TOURIST SAFETY
SECURITY CHECK
Obtain security information on your travel destination. The U.S. Government website provides travel advisories to high risk countries. See our list of high risk countries below, each with its associated travel advisory. Due to the occupation of Hezbollah, the U.S. government does have a travel advisory for Lebanon.
RESEARCH
It is important to fully understand the destination you are traveling to and which areas to stay away from. For example, certain areas in high-risk countries are occupied by active terrorist organizations.
HEAD TO YOUR DOCTOR
Before embarking on your next adventure, it is a good idea to make a doctor’s visit before and after traveling. Amer Fakhoury was very healthy and had medical records to prove it before going to Lebanon. Following the abuse and torture that Amer faced while being illegally detained, Amer came back with EBV-linked Stage 4 B-Cell Lymphoma.
KEEP IT ON THE DOWN-LOW
Do not publicize your travel destinations on social media. If the wrong person knows a U.S. Citizen is arriving on a certain date in a certain location, they will have better time to prepare a kidnapping!
DO NOT TRUST FOREIGN OFFICIALS
If you have been told it is safe to travel to a certain country by that country’s foreign officials, it is best to verify this with the U.S. Government. Foreign officials do not care about the health and safety of U.S. Citizens. Amer Fakhoury was told it was completely safe to travel back to Lebanon by high government officials, unfortunately these officials were extremely corrupted and working for Hezbollah Terrorists.
GO TO THE U.S. EMBASSY
Whenever you feel at danger or that something is not right go directly to the U.S. Embassy! When you are at the U.S. Embassy, it is considered being on U.S. Grounds. Here you are safe from the governing laws of that foreign country. If Amer had gone to the U.S. Embassy, he would have avoided being taken by the corrupted Hezbollah-backed Lebanese government.
HOLD ON TO YOUR PASSPORT
It is important that your U.S. Passport remains with you at all times and is kept in a safe place. If you are ever traveling and asked to provide your U.S. Passport for a background check, go directly to the U.S. Embassy! Amer Fakhoury’s U.S. Passport was taken in for a “Background Check” and was never given back.
WHO IS AT RISK?
Everyone. There is always risk associated with traveling to high risk countries for any traveler. The biggest mistake is thinking you are immune to being kidnapped or held hostage. This can happen to anyone so it is best to always be prepared!
